Charles Cangro is a widely recognized authority in income tax and estate planning for ultra high net worth individuals, multigenerational family offices and closely held business owners. He has successfully navigated several major estates through complex IRS audit controversies and various planning and compliance issues.
Mr. Cangro enjoyed a long career at the international accounting firm of Ernst & Young where he served most recently as the Northeast Region Director of Private Client Services. He also was a member of the firm's National Technical Review Committee on Estates and Trusts, as well as an instructor for the firm's National Education programs on Estate and Business Succession Planning, Fiduciary Income Tax and Charitable Planning.
Mr. Cangro is a frequent speaker on financial and estate planning matters and has been engaged by Fortune 500 companies to conduct seminars for their senior executives on the financial and estate planning considerations associated with retirement. He has been interviewed on CNN News and has been quoted on various estate income tax planning topics in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fortune Magazine, The Real Estate Journal, The Practical Accountant, and Boardroom Magazine. Charles also is a frequent lecturer on estate planning topics for various professional associations. Charles is a former member of the Board of Directors of the IAFP (New York City Chapter). He is both an attorney and CPA and holds an LLM in Taxation from New York University.
Reena Bhatt advises companies on their cross-border business and tax issues, specializing in international tax planning. Her practice has focused on issues facing start-up and growth stage companies dealing with complex issues including digital data, the cloud and software as a service. She regularly advises on establishing and operating global activities using tax-efficient structures that align with business goals; this includes post-merger integration, corporate reorganizations, repatriation planning, strategic acquisitions and intellectual property planning. Prior to joining Alchemy, Reena was the Global Tax Director of a global, multi-billion dollar technology and media company. And prior to that, she was an International Tax Partner in Ernst and Young’s New York City office. Reena started her legal career in Ottawa, Canada first in private practice and then as Chief of Staff and senior legal and political advisor to the Mayor of Ottawa.
Reena is an Adjunct Professor of International Tax at NYU’s School of Law and previously was a ‘January Term’ professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario. Reena serves a member of the board of directors and executive committee for the Canadian Association of New York and its charitable foundation and also as the first non-Canadian resident board member of Canada's National Arts Centre Foundation.
Reena received a Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University (Canada), a LLB from the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and a LLM in International Taxation from New York University.
Jeff Scheine is a founding member and Managing Director of Alchemy Capital Planning LLC. Prior to joining Alchemy during July, 2013, he was a tax partner in the international law firm, Kaye Scholer LLP. Prior thereto Jeff was a tax partner in the New York office of Torys LLP and a Tax Principal in Arthur Andersen LLP. Jeff holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration - Accounting from Emory University, a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and a LL.M. – Taxation from New York University.
Jeff has written and lectured extensively on a wide variety of topics relating to cross border investment and financing.
Jeff has a wide-range of experience working with domestic and international clients on a variety of transactions and investments. This experience includes both providing sophisticated international tax advice as well as related business consulting advice. His clients include private equity funds, private and governmental pension funds, closely held real estate and operating businesses and several professional service firms with international platforms.
Gary Gartner is a founding member and Managing Director of Alchemy Capital Planning. He has extensive experience counseling clients on the US and international tax consequences of various transactions, restructurings and securities offerings, and advising generally on strategic joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and a wide array of liquidity transactions.
Prior to his joining Alchemy, Gary was Chairman of the Tax Department of the international law firm, Kaye Scholer LLP and served on its Executive Committee. Prior to that, he headed the U.S tax practice at Torys LLP and was an International Principal of Arthur Andersen LLP. Previous to that, he practiced law in both Canada and the United States, focusing on international transactions.
He has served, and continues to serve, on the boards of various private and public companies, internationally. Gary holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Ottawa and a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University.
Gary has written and lectured extensively on various topics, including the efficient structuring of business investments. He has co-authored the chapter on cross-border tax issues in US Taxation of Foreign Controlled Business (Warren Gorham & Lamont) and the chapter on financing and investment products in The New Era of Investment Banking (Probus Publishing).Gary was recommended as a leading practitioner in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2009), (2010), (2011) and (2012) and (2013). He also is recognized in Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Tax Advisers as a leading tax practitioner.
